WTT重庆冠军赛男单八分之一决赛迎来了一场焦点对决，林昀儒对阵张本智和。这场比赛，张本智和苦战4局3-1战胜林昀儒晋级八强。

林昀儒世界排名第七，由于马龙退赛，林昀儒升至赛会六号种子，张本智和世界排名第11位，这也导致他无法获得大种子席位，过早和林昀儒上演强强对话。不过双方过去4次交手，张本智和赢了3场占据上风。首轮比赛，张本智和险遭爆大冷，3-2险胜埃及选手阿萨尔，而林昀儒直落三局击败李元璋，双方的状态都不错。值得一提的是，赛前裁判连续喊了张本智和3次，张本智和才进入球场比赛，疑似和林昀儒打心理战，而这已经不是张本智和第一次这么操作了。

第一局比赛，张本智和开局打得很积极，连续的调动和变化之下，张本智和连得3分抢下开局。反观林昀儒一直没调动开，太多的落点围绕在张本智和的反手位，张本智和几乎不用做任何调整就能发力。而且林昀儒各种失误，甚至半高球都打丢了。就这样，首局成了“喇叭和哑巴”的对决。随着张本智和侧身一板暴冲造成林昀儒出界，张本智和打出11-2的悬殊比分先下一城。
